Isle of Wight College

The Isle of Wight College (the College) with around 4,000 students and 350 staff is the only FE/HE college on the Isle of Wight and offers a broad curriculum of both vocational and academic programmes. This provides a service for not only young learners on the island but also for local employers. The College always strives to invest in its staff in order to provide the students with the most up to date and relevant education which prepares them for the global labour market. The school is an Ofsted graded 'good' college with a long history of receiving international students, including those on Leonardo/Erasmus+ programmes. It is situated on an offshore island, and its efforts at internationalisation are being recognised by the Association of Colleges (AOC). It is currently renewing its Matrix Standard accreditation for IAG (information, advice and guidance). The College operates a commercial restaurant, Beauty salón and Hair salón and has an active Forest School. It also opened a new STEM centre in September 2016 and a state of the art CEECAM centre for marine engineering, composites and manufacturing in September 2017. It also has a very well equipped gym and centre for students with special needs. It is involved in hosting work placement students on Erasmus+ and also VET mobilities and staff training. It has also just completed a school partnership about healthy living. Its Travel and Tourism and hospitality departments lecturers have been involved in Erasmus+ KA1. The International Manager has over 20 years experience in European funded projects and the International Officer was involved in our last KA1 project. The International Department plays a key role in developing and managing projects working along with curriculum tutors and the Finance department as well as student services. The school is deeply rooted in the community and has strong ties with the municipality and organisations that promote the area. The teachers that will be involved in the project are the course coordinator for Travel and Tourism, the Senior Lecturer of Higher Education, the International Manager and the Head of the Catering and Sports departments. The coordinator for Travel and Tourism has worked for a large tour operator and their training provider (Tui and In2action), her main role was to train new staff and implement new activities for children and adults in family concept hotels. The Senior Lecturer of Higher Education teaches the majority of business and marketing units on the Tourism course as this is where her expertise is. The International Manager has over 20 years of working experience on European funded projects. In case she moved she would be replaced by the International Coordinator. In case the Head of the Catering and Sports departments and the coordinator for Travel and Tourism or the Senior Lecturer of Higher Education should leave their position or the school, they will be replaced by those who will be appointed in their place.
