Romania: a dive into traditions and craftsmanship

29th November - 3rd December

Between the end of November and the beginning of December 2021, Ploiesti in Romania was the place of the third mobility for the project Ties. The topic of this international meeting was “Traditions and Crafts” and the students shared their findings on folklore in fairy tales, presented their traditional masks and the role in preserving culture and illustrated some crafts of their country or region.

Creative workshops were organised both at school and in some places in the area between Ploiesti and Bucharest: ceramics, clay pot painting and linocut were experienced in Piscu, a very relaxing activity, while in Bucharest, at the Village Museum, the students participated to a treasure hunt in international teams discovering folklore landmarks.

Also the visits to some hotspots contributed to enrich this full immersion in the traditions: Peles Castle in Sinaia, Brasov – a medieval city - and Bran Castle created that magic atmosphere to discover history, traditions and superstitions about Romania.

The visit to the majestic Palace of Parliament in Bucharest was the occasion to know Ceausescu’s heritage and the recent history of Romania.

New friendships among students and teachers were born, this mobility has represented a way to strengthen the ties among countries that are geographically and historically different.
